“Prompt remediation of mold-damaged materials and infrastructure repair should be the primary response to mold growth in buildings.”
— NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene
It’s been nearly four months since Hurricane Sandy and although the flood waters have long receded, our neighbors who are struggling to rebuild their lives are facing a dangerous new obstacle: mold infestation.
According to the City’s own research, mold can cause serious health problems, particularly for seniors and young children, who make up over 25% of the population in Sandy-affected neighborhoods. Mold exposure can even result in permanent lung disease—and it has also shown to seriously exacerbate asthma and other respiratory illnesses.
It doesn’t have to be this way. If Mayor Bloomberg acts, these communities can have safe, mold-free housing—and a comprehensive program could create more than 9,000 quality jobs for local residents in the process. Sign the petition and demand Mayor Bloomberg secure funding to eradicate the post-Sandy mold infestation once and for all!
It’s time to eradicate post-Sandy mold infestation once and for all—we urge you to create a comprehensive mold cleanup program that gets Sandy survivors back home and back to work.
