Campaign Description

Educating and mobilizing more voters in poor and low-income communities and communities of color is critical to building support for progressive solutions in New York City and State.  There are literally millions of people in New York City and across the state who are not participating in the electoral process and thus are unlikely to be adequately represented by their elected officials. This is particularly true in poor and low-income communities and in communities of color where voter turn-out lags significantly behind the local average, even during highly contested national elections. Even in the nation’s largest city, the impact of several hundred new voters in a local race or 10,000 new voters in a city-wide race can make a difference.

New York Jobs with Justice is committed to ending voting disparities and making sure all citizens can meaningfully participate in our democracy. We have worked with partner organizations to found two collaborative non-partisan civic engagement projects to increase voter participation: NY VOTEin New York City and NY Pushback in New York State. And we continue to collaborate with non-partisan civic engagement initiatives through our participation in the New York State Civic Engagement Table.
